1 Million Lives Transformed

At our church, Initiative 22, Pastor Dwight often encourages us to join him in his prayer for one million people in Montreal to meet Jesus. I hadn't really thought about the magnitude of this prayer until this week. Being alone in the big city this week I've come to realize the depth of the brokenness in people's lives here. As I lay in my bed trying to fall asleep I couldn't block out the shouts of most likely a homeless woman shouting curses and using God's precious name in the same breath. I think about the large student population and the ongoing protests and violence and the man that walked with me half way to work begging for friendship. These are the people I'm praying for and I'm praying that God will use me to be salt of the earth and light of the world (Matt 5: 13-16). I pray for opportunity to share God's love and His Good News and that He will give me the words to speak and guide my actions.

I am reminded this week of the Chris Tomlin song:

You're the God of this City
You're the King of these people
You're the Lord of this nation
You are

You're the Light in this darkness
You're the Hope to the hopeless
You're the Peace to the restless
You are

There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God

For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this City
Greater thing have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this City

Parks, Markets and Paddle Boats

This year on the May long weekend Jared was able to make a last minute visit! I am so thankful for the beautiful weather we enjoyed and the time we got to spend together! With June just around the corner I am looking forward to finally being in the same city for longer than 3 days! Two more weeks!

On our walk from Westmount Park to Atwater Market Jared snapped this beauty!

So many beautiful flowers at the Atwater Market!

We enjoyed a lovely paddle boat ride on the Lachine Canal. Jared lovingly sacrificed his shirt for my shoulders which were getting a little rosy even after I ignored his suggestion to apply sunscreen before we left in the morning.  :)

Elm Street Life

I am enjoying some alone time this evening in our 100 degree apartment with the fan blowing straight on my face. I've hunkered down with my computer, opened a new tab and clicked "elm street life"- a favourite blog of ours. I have only recently begun to keep up with Whitney Newby's posts but tonight I decided to start from the very beginning of her blog. With every post I am more and more encouraged and I admire her and her husband's faith in God so much. They are such an inspiring young couple! So, I strongly suggest checking out her blog! Enjoy!

United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, & China

Believe it or not, we have followers in all three of these places... Creepy? A little bit. But also pretty cool. Shout out to you, whoever you are, and hello from Montreal!

Open Road Project

1900 Tupper hosted some special guests Sunday night: the boys of the Open Road Project. They're just starting out on an East Coast road trip, and we were lucky enough to be one of their stops!

Check out their blog here.

It was so fun to meet you, Jeremy, Dylan, Jordan, and Calvin. Come back soon!

PS - Thanks for the photo ;)

My Favorite Lunch

Now that school is out and I have settled into a new, slower-paced study routine, I have made a point of putting some effort into my meals. I love to cook, but the stress of school tends to mean that I settle for less elaborate and more freezer-friendly meals from September to April. While I had the intention of making my favorite lunch alllll year, the chopping-intensive preparation deterred me-- until this week.

I bought the summer-fresh ingredients and set out to make my favorite lunch: lentil-bulgur salad. If the name freaks you out, I'm sorry. But you truly could not ask for a healthier, more protein- and vitamin- packed single-bowl dish. The colorful veggies make it especially tasty. I go heavy on the fresh mint, splurge on good olives and feta, and roast my walnuts to perfection. I find a big batch keeps well for about five days in the fridge, if you leave out the tomatoes.
